Koshari, the family-run vegetarian restaurant inside Salt & Sugar in Ballard, will close its current location next month as it searches for a new home.
In a message posted on its website, the restaurant announced that its last day at 5615 24th Ave. NW will be Saturday, Aug. 15.
“After a wonderful couple of years at Salt & Sugar, our time in this space is coming to an end,” the owners wrote. “We’ll then be taking a pause while we search for a new space to call home.”
The announcement thanks customers and Salt & Sugar for their support and says the closure is temporary.
“This isn’t goodbye—just a pause between chapters,” the message states.
Koshari opened inside Salt & Sugar in 2024, serving vegetarian dishes inspired by Egyptian and Lebanese cuisine. The restaurant grew out of a market business started by owners Ayman and Amani Almasri before moving into the Ballard café.
According to the restaurant’s website, Koshari began with its signature Egyptian street food dish before expanding into a fully vegetarian menu. The family also says the business allows them to work while caring for their daughter, who has multiple disabilities.
When the restaurant opened in Ballard, Ayman Almasri told My Ballard that partnering with Salt & Sugar gave the family an opportunity to establish a permanent location after building a following at local markets.
The owners said they plan to pause operations after Aug. 15 while looking for a new space.
