Jimothy, Seattle’s newest internet celebrity, has captured the hearts of millions since video of the long-legged raccoon’s dash through a Ballard yard went viral last week. Now, the unlikely local star is getting an official celebration.
To honor the short-spined raccoon first spotted in Ballard, Seattle City Councilmember Alex Mercedes Rinck is planning a proclamation to commemorate Jimothy. The event, planned for Bergen Place Park (5450 22nd Ave NW) on Sunday, July 26 at 12 p.m., will also include a competition of Jimothy-inspired art.
The celebration comes after an outpouring of creativity inspired by the raccoon, whose unusually long legs and distinctive gait quickly made him an online sensation. Jimothy art has popped up everywhere, from Little Free Library designs to murals and even poetry.
