A new gallery-led art fair is making its inaugural debut this week at West Canal Yards, the redeveloped waterfront property along the Lake Washington Ship Canal just east of the Ballard Bridge.
Assembly runs through Sunday, July 26, bringing together galleries from Seattle, Portland, Dallas, and Los Angeles for a five-day invitational event in the historic fisheries building at 1100 W. Ewing St.
The fair is organized by a cohort of Seattle galleries, with founding members including Traver Gallery and Greg Kucera Gallery. According to organizers, each participating gallery is selected for its curatorial perspective and the artists it represents.
Rather than using a traditional booth layout, Assembly is organized as a series of individual exhibitions, with each gallery occupying its own dedicated space. Organizers say the exhibition-led format is intended to create closer interaction between artworks, artists, curators, and visitors.
Participating galleries include Greg Kucera Gallery, Traver Gallery, Foster/White Gallery, Hall Spassov Gallery, Patricia Rovzar Gallery, PDX Contemporary Art, Russo Lee Gallery, Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Charlie James Gallery and others from Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles and Dallas.
The inaugural Assembly art fair is being held at West Canal Yards, a recently redeveloped historic fisheries building on seven acres of Ship Canal waterfront. Wing Point Partners, a real estate investment and development firm in Seattle, opened West Canal Yards in 2025. Wing Point is also behind the recently acquired Ballard Mill Marina just across the Ship Canal from West Canal Yards, where owner Ned Carner is planning a new passenger terminal.
Assembly’s hours are:
- Friday, July 24: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday, July 25: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sunday, July 26: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Seattle retailer Orcas Paley Concept Shop is also participating in the art fair, selling artisan goods and vintage finds.
