Man riding electric scooter killed in collision near 24th and 85th

A 37-year-old man riding an electric scooter died after being struck by a minivan driver early Tuesday morning near 24th Avenue NW and NW 85th Street.

Seattle police said 911 received a call around 12:44 a.m. Tuesday from a bus driver who found an injured man in the middle of the intersection.

Seattle Fire Department medics responded and attempted lifesaving measures, but the man died at the scene.

Investigators determined that the man had been riding an electric scooter when he was struck by a minivan traveling westbound on NW 85th Street.

The 16-year-old driver returned to the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the driver and found no signs of impairment.

Detectives with the Seattle Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.
