This fall, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will be working on the Healthy Street signage along 1st Ave NW, N 100th St, and Fremont Ave N in Greenwood.
Healthy Streets started during the pandemic in 2020 as a way to get people outside more. They have several safety features like easier crossings at busy streets, speed humps to slow down drivers, and pavement markings. When it first established the Healthy Streets, SDOT installed fixtures like concrete block bases and painted curb bulbs to signal the start of a Healthy Street—the upcoming project will secure the sign bases to the streets.
The work will happen over the coming weeks and months, and SDOT says the schedule may change based on weather.
The work is planned for intersections on 1st Ave NW between NW 74th St and NW 100th St, on N 100th St from Palatine to Fremont Ave NW, and on Fremont Ave N from N 109th St down to N 88th St.

SDOT says to expect the following:
- “No Parking” signs posted at least 72 hours before construction begins
- Work between 7AM and 5PM, on weekdays and/or weekends
- Parking restrictions in the work area
- Construction equipment and materials nearby
- Noise, dust, vibrations, and smells during construction
The Greenwood Healthy Street was established in 2023. Ballard also has a Healthy Street along 17th Ave NW.
