Many people will have a day off work tomorrow for Independence Day, and many city services will be unavailable or running on holiday schedules.
Here’s what’s closed:
- Public Libraries
- Community Centers
- Federal offices and courts
- U.S. Post Offices (no mail delivery, either)
- City of Seattle offices
- City-owned indoor pools
- Environmental Learning Centers
- City-operated sailing and small-craft centers
Many businesses will be on a special 4th of July schedule, so it might be best to call ahead or check online.
Seattle street parking will be free for the day.
All King County Transit buses will be on a holiday schedule, with an extra-late night service for people heading home after the fireworks.
King County water taxis will be on a weekend schedule, and Link Light Rail and Sound Transit will be on a Sunday schedule.
Garbage and recycling will be on a normal pick-up schedule.
And, if you’re keen to watch the fireworks, head in the direction of Gas Works Park for the big firework show over Lake Union, which starts at 10pm.

Next time (Labor Day?) call around for the hours of operation for the super markets and other grocery stores. They don’t always reliably update their web sites. “It might be best to check” is a strange substitute for journalism.
