Ship Canal reopens to water activities following sewer overflow

The Ship Canal has reopened to all water activities after a sewer overflow late last week.

Seattle Public Utilities announced the closure on Friday after reports of a sewer overflow near Leary Way NW and NW 36th St. They posted signs along the Ship Canal between 2nd and 3rd Avenues NW.

Public Health-Seattle & King County tested the water on Monday and determined it’s safe for public recreation and so have removed the warning signs.

SPU says if you find flooding or sewer backups, please report them to the SPU 24/7 Operations Response Center at (206) 386-1800.
