City Chicken Coop Tour this weekend

Curious about raising urban chickens? Check out local poultry palaces on the self-guided Tilth City Chicken Coop Tour this Saturday. Two Ballard homes are part of the tour with 11 others in north Seattle and 14 more throughout Seattle.

The two stops in Ballard have some pretty unique features and they’re not just about chickens, Elaine Boyd with Tilth tells us. One includes a coop on wheels making it a mobile coop, which is also elevated for easy access. The hen house at the other stop collects filtered rain water for the chickens and the coop has a solar night light. There are also two baby goats born in May.

When: Saturday, July 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: At various locations all over Seattle
Cost: $25 for Seattle Tilth members, $30 for non-members. Each ticket allows a family or 4 individuals to participate. Tickets available here.

  1. Glad to see the city continues to focus their attention on the most critical issues facing Seattle. Escalating violent crime, traffic, crumbling infrastructure, etc., etc. – that stuff is all on the back burner! But what this city really needs is more chickens – THAT, the city will make a priority. Thanks, McGinn, you’re a genius!
