Seattle chef Victor Steinbrueck is opening his newest venture this week: GoodMart is scheduled to open at 5130 Ballard Ave NW this Thursday, Sept. 24.
Steinbrueck, who also owns Local Tide in Fremont, has designed GoodMart to be a seafood market and deli. He told The Seattle Times that the cafe, which seats 40, will have an oyster bar along with lunch and dinner options. They’ll serve fish cooked several ways alongside poke bowls and ready-made meals.
Steinbrueck first introduced Local Tide through a series of pop-ups before opening the restaurant’s permanent Fremont location in 2020. The restaurant focuses on Pacific Northwest seafood, with a menu that has included crab and rockfish sandwiches, miso black cod, and poke. Local Tide was named one of The New York Times’ 25 best restaurants in Seattle in 2023, and Steinbrueck’s dishes were featured by StarChefs in 2025.
GoodMart is opening in the former Kathy Casey Food Studios, which closed last September after 27 years on Ballard Ave.
