Campaigning at Ballard SeafoodFest

Posted by Geeky Swedes on July 27th, 2008

The two Democrats vying for the hotly-contested state representative seat in our district both worked the crowds at SeafoodFest.

Reuven Carlyle and John Burbank (below) stood twenty feet apart from each other on Market St., shaking hands and answering questions from the crowd.

  • Oh, and one more thing, Reuven spent a great deal of time standing not 20 feet from me in front of our Campaign booth yelling "Democrat for Legislature!" I would call that encroachment.

Anyway, what is more important is that the voters know that this state is going to have a $2.7 billion dollar shortfall when the Legislature meets in January. We need to have fiscal responsibility--that is what Helen Sommers was all about--and so am I.

    Thanks for listening,

  • Hi All,

Thanks Sarah E. for noticing I was neglected in this post--seems to happen a great deal! Yes, I was there--for two full days. There is one thing about not raising much money for my campaign--I won't owe anyone any favors when the election is over. Also, I have come a long ways with the minimal amount of money I have raised. Guess that is a true sign of "fiscal responsibility"!

Why do people on this site, Amber, have to be so sarcastic and condescending? Being that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, I really expect more from the comments at MyBallard.com.

I actually worked during SeafoodFest on Saturday and Leslie was roaming along Market St., but she was primarily in front of the District 36 Republican booth, which is where I saw the other two candidates. I didn’t actually have a yard stick with me, so I guess you got me on the 20’. Does it really matter? The point I was making was that it “should” have been noted on this website that there is, in fact, another candidate running. And, it shouldn't take more than $100k to run for ANY office- that's part of the problem. Why would you care how much money she’s raised? FYI everyone...there ARE republicans in Ballard/Seattle and we would like representation in Olympia. Instead of being concerned with how much money she’s raised, you should take a look at what her values/ethics/positions are.

Actually, Leslie was across the street and down much closer to the food vendors.....last time I checked that was a lot farther than 20 feet away from the corner of Market & 20th.

And I suppose I'd take Leslie Bloss more serious, if she could raise over $100,000 (like the other two candidates have) as apposed to the only $150 cash on hand that she had as the end of last month. Takes a lot more than that to run a successful or even close to competitive campaign.

Leslie Bloss, a 3rd candidate for the “hotly contested state representative seat in our district” was also there- somewhere between the twenty feet you speak of. I’m trying to figure out how that fact could have been overlooked, being that she was campaigning rignt next to Carlyle. I guess you missed her when you were snapping pictures. www.blossforthe36th.com

Did Burbank introduce his new proposal, the "Lutefisk Tax", with all funds being used to hire city workers to provide old Swedish ladies with free massages?
