Mr. Gyros expanding to Ballard

Posted by Geeky Swedes on April 29th, 2010

Mr. Gyros, the casual Mediterranean eatery in Greenwood (8411 Greenwood Ave N) is expanding to Ballard.

After being in Greenwood for seven years, owners and brothers Sammy and Joni Arsheed are busy working on their second location at the corner of 20th Ave NW and NW 56th St, next door to Golden City Chinese. The space will be similar to the first location, with an open kitchen, casual dining and a hard-to-miss yellow awning. “It’ll be the same as Greenwood,” Sammy says, “Bar stools and baskets. Get people in and out.” They plan on staying open late, like 2 a.m., on Fridays and Saturdays for those late-nighters who want something other than hot dogs, Sammy tells us. According to their project manager, Mike Hainsworth, the new shop should be open around the middle of June. (Thanks Silver for the tip!)

Love it! And love that they'll be open late.

Late night snacking options on the weekend will be welcomed by me. I was always a little surprised that someone hasn't tried to fill that void. It seems that a place like that could grab some business from the post-drinking crowd.

Yay! Ballard's Greek community cheers the addition! I'm looking forward to late night gyros – we're woefully short on such yummy options. Now if we could just get folks to PRONOUNCE “gyros” correctly … /sighs.

    Best. News. Ever.

For those of you who have never been, these are the nicest guys with the best gyros.

    Welcome to Ballard!

Woohoo! Yummy Gyros. It's nice to have another inexpensive and quick option for those nights that I don't feel like cooking.

Good luck guys! WE LOVE MR GYROS! Be careful at that intersection. Lots of issues on 20th near Market.

The only thing that sucks about this is we probably won't get the brothers working together anymore. They're a blast.

Next, open one at 45th and Stone Way near where I work.

question, do they put french fries and ketchup in their gyros?

i know that sounds weird/sick/wrong. but when i was traveling the greek islands ten years ago, many of the shops would do that and it was the best.

it doesn't sound authentic… but i was in greece so it was to me then.

Congratulations guys! Seriously, if you ever want to learn what real customer service is, please model it on these guys.

I look forward to sampling your second location.

I am a huge huge fan of Mr. Gyros for many reasons – top two: the brothers and the amazingly delicious food!!! Super excited that they will be in the neighborhood. Anyone had mom's soup? It is the BEST!

Pretty decent stuff but their servings are teensy tiny. Other than that, good for them. They're good guys.

Don't know if I'll be able to wait the six weeks!

  • 20 briancg // Apr 30, 2010 at 12:47 am

Yes!! I might as well just give them all of my money now. Will they offer a bulk discount?

I love ya, man!! Close enough. Hearing “Jai-roe” (with “jai” pronounced like “pie”) is almost painful to hear.

I am so excited – I love Mr. Gyros!

  • 24 Area_Man // May 2, 2010 at 12:09 am

    The ides of June….yummy!

I agree, Sammy and Joni are awesome. I still remember our 2nd time in there, a month after the first time. Sammy warmly welcomes us, his eyes narrow momentarily, the he says “Falafel plate and shish tawook plate?” we were stunned–he was right–and we were hooked. Now to have them just a few blocks from our biz, I'll need a gyro budget.
    and late hours too!!? swoon.
