Renaming ceremony near Ballard Locks

This afternoon at 2:30 p.m., the Cruise West ship that ran aground in Virginia last November will be renamed at a ceremony at Jacobson Terminal near the Locks. According to Hamptonroads.com, the Spirit of Nantucket started taking on water was purposefully run aground. 66 people were on board, but no one was injured. Today the cruise ship will be renamed the Spirit of Glacier Bay and be reassigned to a 3-4 day Alaska Cruise schedule. Pastor Erik Wilson Weiberg of Ballard First Lutheran Church will bless the vessel at the event.

Adds Ryan in comments: “Don’t they know it’s bad luck to rename a ship? Considering this one has already run aground… let’s hope Pastor Erik adds some extra holy water to that blessing.”
