Friends of Kirke Park raising funds to build trellis

The Friends of Kirke Park is hoping to raise money to build a new trellis for the recently redesigned park (7028 9th Ave NW). The group has signed a contract with the Department of Neighborhoods, and construction will start after they raise $3,450. Once the money is raised, construction should take two months to complete. They’ll be setting up a webpage to help with the fundraising – keep an eye on Phinney Neighborhood Association’s (PNA) site for it to go live.

Friends of Kirke Park is holding a work party this weekend, and any hours volunteered will be matched by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods for the trellis. The rain garden project was recently submitted to the Neighborhood Park and Street Fund on Feb. 4, and they hope to supplement the funding with another grant to beautify the west entrance to the park, and to help with combined sewer overflow and traffic speeds, according to Groundswell NW.
