BHS athletes celebrate a successful season of competition

The BHS athletes competing in playoffs and at state have been spreading the Beaver spirit far and wide and doing everyone proud! From swimming to wrestling to gymnastics to basketball the young athletes have been performing fantastically!

Check out the highlights from playoffs and state competition below:

Swim and Dive:

Ballard Boys Swimming and Dive team had a very successful State tournament and record breaking season placing a team best 16th overall in State. Sophmore Rory Carlson took 6th place and 8th place in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle while Junior Andrew Stevens took 12th in the butterfly.

Team Captain Josh Pehrson also achieved a personal record in the breaststroke as did the freestyle relay team pictured below.

Three school records were also broken; Andrew Stevens broke the 100 meter butterfly record with a time of 53.82. The previous 100 meter butterfly record of 54.73 was set by Kuo Wang back in 1993.

Rory Carlson also broke the 100 meter freestyle record with a time of 48.78. The previous 100 meter freestyle record of 48.88 was set back in 2003 by Kerry Tannhauser.

Evan Arends and Simon Duyungan also competed in State, with Duyungan breaking the boy’s dive record with a 389.4.

Basketball:

The girls basketball team had a fantastic season and advanced to the playoffs for the second straight year, while the boys basketball team advanced to the third round of the playoffs before losing out.

Wrestling:

Senior Austin Daffron advanced to the State wrestling tournament making him the 2nd Beaver to do so in at least 10 years. Senior Jack Deal was a State alternate but didn’t get to wrestle.

Gymnastics:

Clara Yardley (floor and beam) and Liat Carlyle (beam) both qualified to the State Gymnastic Tournament.
