TIRES SLASHED: Neighbors say someone slashed the tires on at least 19 cars late Friday evening near on 24th Ave. NW near 83rd St. (which is near last week’s stabbing incident.) Residents in Magnolia were also hit, reports KIRO. Seattle Police has no suspects so far.
STREETFIGHT ON 58TH: Saint Alphonsus School always had a bit of a battle on its hands along NW 58th St., but now the Gemenskap Park closure on 14th Ave. NW has escalated matters. The Urbanist reports that detoured drivers are using the sidewalks to get around the daily road closure signs, and Saint Alphonsus is fighting back with strategically-placed planters. Oh vey.
BHS JAZZ BENEFIT: Ballard High School’s talented jazz band will play this May at the prestigious Essentially Ellington Festival in NYC, but before they go, they’re playing a benefit concert this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at BHS. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
LITTER PATROL: In partnership with the Ballard Alliance, Seattle Public Utilities is running a “Litter Abatement Pilot” and sending cleanup crews to problem areas in Ballard (and five other Seattle neighborhoods). Their first round of cleanups were in the Ballard Brewery District area.
FOOD TRUCK THEFT: The Bella M’Briana food truck says someone broke into Ballard Mini Pod’s storage facility on Saturday night — the same night as the shooting — and stole its $5,000 generator. Now it’s created a GoFundMe account to raise money to get back in business. As we wrote in February, food trucks have been hit hard by crime recently.
BEER WARS: Ray’s Café is holding its annual Ballard Beer Wars from now until May 11th. To be honest, it’s essentially a drinking game. Ray’s Café is monitoring how much people drink from four taps — from Stoup, Reuben’s, Lucky Envelope and Maritime — and the winning brewery will get its own dedicated tap for a year.
BEER HALL: The Skål Beer Hall, a Scandinavian bar and restaurant coming to Old Ballard, is pushing back its opening until “late summer” due to delays with a city permit. But look for Skål’s booth at the Syttende Mai parade on May 17th.
STAMPEDE COCKTAIL CLUB: Last month we told you The Helm on N. 36th St. in Fremont has shut down. Now there’s word the Stampede Cocktail Club will take its place. “(It’s) going to be your destination spot for vibrant cocktails, delicious dumplings, and off-world tech,” owner Paul Shanrock told Eater.
WEWORK EVERYWHERE: After announcing its taking a couple floors of Ballard’s upcoming office building at 15th and Market, it looks like WeWork is leasing the entire Watershed building in Fremont. That’s a new 7-story development at the base of the Aurora Bridge at N. 34th St.
INTERBAY APARTMENT: The plan for a new 5-story apartment at 2258 15th Ave W has passed the Design Review Board. Called “Coda”, the development will feature TBD retail on the ground floor.

yeah, someone associated with the hell house at 8315 24th NW likely did the tire slashing in “retaliation” for neighbors displeasure over the constant BS from that house….
The tires were slashed by kids, aged 13–17. It’s not related to the stabbing. And no, I don’t have specific information on this. It’s intuition.

Well, whoever did the tire slashing, the dollar amount of the damage/vandalism takes this well into felony territory, at probably $400 – 1,000 per car (x19 cars) by the time all the tires, towing and lost time at work is tallied up. One could hope for a little street justice, and I wouldn’t mind seeing somebody get the shit kicked out of them for doing this nonsense. Then wait for the civil damages suits in small claims court to roll in, not that whoever did this could likely pay up. If its HS kids, maybe its time they learned a lesson in life. I am guessing it wasn’t by the way.
@Guesty: Can we see your proof? This sounds VERY much like something bored kids would do, not to mention, you seem to have conveniently glossed over the tidbit about tires also getting slashed in Magnolia. Search Occulm’s Razor for more.
Back to your accusation: why would junkies take the time to slash the tires of 19 cars for “revenge”? Smashing windows is much quicker and just as costly as tires.

I’m more worried about drivers who are so self-centered that they would drive on a sidewalk adjacent to a school, rather than take a 2 minute detour because they can’t seem to understand “ROAD CLOSED”. This is the behavior that threatens my and others lives every day. Yet, there’s an alleged war on cars!

@Anne: 99% of the time, Occulm’s Razor works 100% of the time. It’s probably the best principle to come out of philosophy, in the history of mankind. Unfortunately people tend to blatantly ignore it and we get some grasping-at-straws theories such as our dear guesty’s.

The guy who did the stabbing is named Phil, and this isn’t the first time he’s stabbed someone. He’s known as a violent wack job, they call him stab and slab phil or something like that. And yes he slashed all the tires as well. Hopefully he’ll mess with the wrong person or do the world a favor and go away. I wouldnt hold my breath tho, guys like this have no clue what a man is.
Thanks for the info. Can you describe him in more detail? Also, the bus stop near there is where a large number of middle and high school age kids get off the buses from nearby schools. I know the house you are talking about because I have seen the ‘activity’ around that house while waiting to pick up kids. Shall we start a pool to guess how long it will be until a kid gets hurt?

I agree MADATMYCAR?. When 2 guys got into a non-lethal fist fight at the Ballard Senior Center there were 10…TEN….police cars there – it was an amazing light show. You’d think that the north precinct cops could cruise by once a day and knock on the door for a little “hi how’s it going” action.
People who let their dogs run off-leash in local parks (~40%) and those that don’t clean up after them (~27%) do far more ‘environmental damage’ than any illegal homeless encampments. Let’s get one thing straight– you do not like blight so encampments bother you– I get that, but to proclaim it’s doing ‘irreparable’ damage to our ecosystems in ridiculous.
I’ve lived here over 20 years and the unwillingness to complete the ‘missing link’ of the B-G trail has had a far greater impact on my life than the increase in trash strewn about. I’m not happy about it, but it really doesn’t have any significant reduction in my day-to-day livelihood.

@Jerzy – Just because “you” don’t think it’s a problem, doesn’t make it not a problem. The waste down the sewer, the camps and taxic garbage in the woods (which also, of course, eventually makes it to the watershed) all add up and the sum ain’t pretty. But look on the bright side: you’re closer than ever to having a completed BG Trail.

The “irresponsible/narcissistic dog owner” problem is linked to the homeless/nomad junkie trash problem.
Once the “small laws” are abandoned, the larger ones are also shrugged off and the general sense of common decency and high trust vanishes. Also, many homeless have dogs (!) as well, so on top of their messes they have sometimes dangerous pit bulls etc they keep as a means to intimidate and be dominant in their respective patch of asphalt.
Seattle is a strange place obsessed with PC rules and phantom “microaggressions/grievances” yet nobody is approached by law enforcement unless they 1) commit felony assault/battery/murder (even then who knows?) or 2) overstay their parking by 5 minutes. Fire up a cigarette or drink a soda pop? Prepare for the cold stare of death from the social justice types, but they don’t seem to mind shrieking tweakers setting people on fire or running around beating people with pieces of scrap metal. Hey, don’t be a Nimby! It’s capitalism’s fault!
The dogs running around harassing the birds etc in wildlife preserves like Golden Garden (my precious num nums can do what she wants, bigots!) are really not much different than the hobos and junkies and degenerates littering everywhere and demanding all sorts of concessions and generally eroding the quality of life. Permissiveness, lack of consideration of neighbors and common spaces, and putting political agendas above traditionally accepted norms of behavior have caused this ungodly mess. In short, the (irresponsible, not all) dog owners are as antisocial in their own way as the drifting addict thieves.

This kind of juvenile attitude is why our city has stalled somewhere in this nadir of distrust and dysfunctional behavior. I assume you probably have a busy day ahead stumming folk songs and demanding some insane, shortsighted tax increase at a City Council meeting.
Please don’t waste your time here, there is a whole long list of terrible, demonstrably failed policies you should be out advocating.

Seattle needs to quit supporting all the homeless scam artists. We don’t need a bunch of shanty towns that cost thousands for service resistant addicts. All the camps along the freeway should be removed and the hobos arrested. Simple solution. All the tents and garbage are bad for the environment.
Clyde, do you think that it will be cheaper to put all of the homeless in jail and keep them there than finding a non criminal justice solution? Is it fair to put people in jail for being poor? I know we do this a lot here, but wonder if you think it’s a good idea.
This problem can be solved with money, but nobody wants to be taxed to solve the problem. I promise the jail solution is a very expensive one.
They aren’t poor because most have money for cell phones, drugs, cigarettes and cans of Hurricane beer.

I had the same problem in my neighborhood, after a long time the cops found out that the tires slashed were made by a local tire shop with the help of some guys that they hired, Sad!
