TIRES SLASHED: Neighbors say someone slashed the tires on at least 19 cars late Friday evening near on 24th Ave. NW near 83rd St. (which is near last week’s stabbing incident.) Residents in Magnolia were also hit, reports KIRO. Seattle Police has no suspects so far.
STREETFIGHT ON 58TH: Saint Alphonsus School always had a bit of a battle on its hands along NW 58th St., but now the Gemenskap Park closure on 14th Ave. NW has escalated matters. The Urbanist reports that detoured drivers are using the sidewalks to get around the daily road closure signs, and Saint Alphonsus is fighting back with strategically-placed planters. Oh vey.
BHS JAZZ BENEFIT: Ballard High School’s talented jazz band will play this May at the prestigious Essentially Ellington Festival in NYC, but before they go, they’re playing a benefit concert this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at BHS. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
LITTER PATROL: In partnership with the Ballard Alliance, Seattle Public Utilities is running a “Litter Abatement Pilot” and sending cleanup crews to problem areas in Ballard (and five other Seattle neighborhoods). Their first round of cleanups were in the Ballard Brewery District area.
FOOD TRUCK THEFT: The Bella M’Briana food truck says someone broke into Ballard Mini Pod’s storage facility on Saturday night — the same night as the shooting — and stole its $5,000 generator. Now it’s created a GoFundMe account to raise money to get back in business. As we wrote in February, food trucks have been hit hard by crime recently.
BEER WARS: Ray’s Café is holding its annual Ballard Beer Wars from now until May 11th. To be honest, it’s essentially a drinking game. Ray’s Café is monitoring how much people drink from four taps — from Stoup, Reuben’s, Lucky Envelope and Maritime — and the winning brewery will get its own dedicated tap for a year.
BEER HALL: The Skål Beer Hall, a Scandinavian bar and restaurant coming to Old Ballard, is pushing back its opening until “late summer” due to delays with a city permit. But look for Skål’s booth at the Syttende Mai parade on May 17th.
STAMPEDE COCKTAIL CLUB: Last month we told you The Helm on N. 36th St. in Fremont has shut down. Now there’s word the Stampede Cocktail Club will take its place. “(It’s) going to be your destination spot for vibrant cocktails, delicious dumplings, and off-world tech,” owner Paul Shanrock told Eater.
WEWORK EVERYWHERE: After announcing its taking a couple floors of Ballard’s upcoming office building at 15th and Market, it looks like WeWork is leasing the entire Watershed building in Fremont. That’s a new 7-story development at the base of the Aurora Bridge at N. 34th St.
INTERBAY APARTMENT: The plan for a new 5-story apartment at 2258 15th Ave W has passed the Design Review Board. Called “Coda”, the development will feature TBD retail on the ground floor.
