Reuben’s Brews collects 200th award at national beer tasting championship

One of Ballard’s busiest breweries has just collected five more awards at a recent beer tasting contest, making their total awards 200 since 2012.

Reuben’s collected their recent handful of medals at the US Beer Tasting Championship, where, for the second year in a row, they won the National Grand Champion award for Hop Tropic Pale Ale. They also won Best of the Northwest in the Pacific Region for Reuben’s Crush IPA, Lilywhite Wit, and Hop Tropic. Good Hair Day, a 25th anniversary brew created for Rudy’s Barbershop, received an Honorable Mention in the competition.

“We are always brewing new styles and approaches to our beers and to see such a wide variety of them be considered best in class makes us feel great about what we are doing,” Adam Robbings, co-founder and brewmaster for Reuben’s Brews, said in a statement. “We know that brewing great beers isn’t about the awards, but it certainly reinforces that our team is creating the kind of brews the craft beer community is seeking and enjoying.”

The brewery also just celebrated its sixth year in business. They’ve outgrown their small space at 5010 14th Ave NW, so they’re expanding into full-scale production facility at a large, historic building at the corner of 8th Ave. NW and NW 46th St. by the end of the year.

      1. I like old-school Belgians, but I’m happy with a nice, strong Maibock or Marzen. Guinness is probably my safety-net beer. Everything I’ve tried of Reuben’s is too hoppy or bitter for my liking, even though I tend to like, even love, those styles if they’re made by other craft brewers. I wish it weren’t that way, but that’s the palate I was born with. I’ll keep sampling a sip now and then, just in case.

      1. Brett, their “multiple styles” tend to taste very similar to my palate. They are a popular brewery, and win lots of awards, and I’m very happy for them! It’s just not for me.

  1. Not surprising. Reuben’s is one of the best breweries in Ballard and Seattle, if not Washington, and can definitely hang with the big boys nationally!
