Coyote takes a stroll through Ballard Locks botanical gardens

Ballard wildlife is taking it up a notch: a local photographer spotted a coyote walking through the botanical garden at the Locks yesterday afternoon.

John Gilbert had just walked through the main gated entrance to the gardens at 2pm when he spotted it. “It might have been spooked by a nearby dog (or looking for a snack) and I caught it coming across the open grass. With some persistence I got close enough to snap a few images.”

Thanks John, for the photo!

  1. So intriguing there seems to be more wildlife in the city lately even though the human population has been increasing. Any ideas why? Is it because surrounding areas are also developing more, forcing wildlife to continue searching for new homes?

    1. I actually talked to a zoologist at Woodland Park Zoo and he said that the conditions in Seattle are now indistinguishable from the wild so they just don’t know the difference anymore.

          1. Would love to know why you’re conflating me with elenchos here. Seriously, take a look up the thread and explain why you think I’m out of line.

          1. Please, let’s not revive the old language of telling people to kill themselves on this site. A little civility goes a long way.

          2. Ah, no big surprise, but you had trouble understanding (better funded public education could help). You guys, meaning the conservatives/neocons/libertarians, tend to favor policies that kill people. Fortunately you have progressives that help save you from yourselves.

          3. “Hey, those Progressives sure are brave and loyal to their countrymen and the founding principles of the their homelands.”

            Said nobody, ever.

          4. “Hey, those libertarians/conservatives/neocons sure do understand what it means to chip in and help build a society up rather than tear it down.”

            Said nobody, ever.

          5. Hey 500 genders and “toxic masculinity” and divorce culture: tell me about the “tearing down of society”.
Also, the Dems voted on all the Neocon war shit. So, Fail.

          6. I know the dems did. The dems you’re talking about ARE the neocons.
You’re the one who failed to understand that. Dems do not equal progressives.

You’re the one who supports everyone running around with machine guns and grenade launchers, eliminating all infrastructure via no tax dollars, and cutting the social safety net so we fall into a caste system. Do you enjoy living in an oligarchy with a severe case of military industrial complex?

          7. Well, not really but if it makes you feel better to think that.

I really just don’t want to be forced to pay for my own burglars, Genius. You can call me a Walmart gun redneck all you want, but chances are you’re probably gonna lose if you want to match wits, Genius.

Fun fact: All your precious gangs have guns. Islamic and African countries are known for people protecting their herds and families with AK-47s etc. Gasp dear god no we can’t have that in America only in our precious idealized “diversity” places where wars are common and human rights depend on a few tribal elders.

Go talk to some vets and grow up.

    1. Too bad that the coyotes are likely to be too picky to eat scabby, filthy hobo junkies. A well-fed and well-groomed cat or dog baby, that’s what’s for dinner!

  2. Honest question:
    Do coyotes have 500 genders?
And if they only have 2, isn’t it time they got “woke”?
    Also, Coyote Tax when?

    1. Honest question:
Why does lil bucky spew hatred everywhere he goes?
And if he isn’t spewing hatred for a moment, is it only when he’s stuffing his face?
Also, when will master Limbaugh come to take him home?

      1. Couple of points:

        1) When you spew hatred on the internet, you generally use the keyboard not your physical mouth. So it’s possible he is “stuffing his face” while typing.
        2) Also if people agree on some points, it doesn’t mean they agree on all. It’s generally not productive to say two people agree on all issues.

        Cheers

        1. I’m glad you understand my point. 99% of what lil bucky does is make assumptions about what liberals believe. I made one in reply to his, and I’m the one at fault? Take the giant turd out of your eye.

      2. fluffermutter, I really like you!
        In fact, you inspire me!
So I wrote you this little song. Let’s you and I and Uncle Buck and elenchos2 and maybe even old elenchos join hands and sing it together.

        I’m just a Ballard blue-tarp cowboy,
        stealing bikes and fluffer’s mail.
I just want to live without your rules,
staying high and out of jail!
