Later this month, there will be a public meeting to learn more about the 7-story hotel being planned for 1766 NW Market St, the current Ballard Blossom location.
The meeting will be an Early Design Guidance meeting (.pdf) and will be held on May 20th at 6:30pm at the Ballard Community Center (6020 28th Ave NW) in the Sunset Room.
The hotel plans include a 7-story building with 120 guestrooms and parking for 60 vehicles (the original proposal was for 30 parking spots, but the design plans have since been updated).
According to the project plans, construction is expected from summer 2020 through winter 2021.
As we reported last month, Ballard Blossom is finalizing details for their new location, but plan to stay put for the next several months. We’ll update when we learn more about their plans.
I’m really happy that they doubled the parking, it seems much more reasonable.
Does Ballard Blossom want to leave or are they being told to move out ?
The owners of Ballard Blossom also owned the property. They sold to a developer earlier this year, so I’m assuming they’ve been planning to move.
Years ago, when patients or families wanted a room or two for 1-3 nights near smc/BALLARD, their options were downtown, or over to Northgate near the freeway (of course there were motels on Hwy99 – not what they wanted). The services at the hospital have really changed, but even so, it will probably be nice for the patients of those services that remain to have options. And of course, for all the people coming into the Ballard core for dinner or drinking. I’m not sure we need a second hotel at the base of the V at Tallman and 17th, but maybe we do.
Be sure to request one of the special Nyer-Urness View Suites at the back of the hotel. Guaranteed hijinks!
We have new condos and apartment buildings all over Ballard with inadequate parking. On street parking is a major frustration in Ballard. Are we to assume that there will never be more than 60 guests with vehicles? And if there are, where do they park?
Ditch your car
brilliant advice – you are a service to your community and MyBallard.
The previous plan only had 30 parking spaces so this is an improvement.
Doubling parking from severely inadequate to less inadequate is more a publicity ploy than a realistic solution to an inevitable problem.
