Ballard Scout Troop needs a new home

The local Ballard Scout Troop is in need of a new home.

Scout Troop 100 — now for both boys and girls — has been operating in Ballard for over 75 years. No doubt you’ve seen them in the community, either at their annual Christmas Tree sale at St. Alphonsus parking lot or riding around in their big white bus, aka, The White Whale. With over 70 members, they run numerous trips out of Ballard and often do community service projects around the neighborhood.

For years they’ve been operating out of the Trinity United Methodist Church, but with the recent sale and renovations, they’re now without a home.

“Until last year our Troop meetings, planning meetings, our bus, our storage shed and storage closet was at Trinity Methodist Church,” Scout Troop committee member Joanne Hughes tells My Ballard.

“We have stayed in contact with the new church owners, however they are doing renovations and are not in a position to commit one way or other to hosting our Troop in the future.”

Joanne says their temporary meeting and storage space at the LDS Church on 132nd has come to an end, and their plans to move into a different North Seattle church have just fallen through.

“With the promising location in North Seattle gone we are at a loss,” Joanna says. “We have been part of Ballard for over 75 years and are now without a home. Personally, the thought of no longer being in Ballard is crushing.”

The troop will start their meetings again the second week of September, but currently don’t have a meeting place.

  1. When I was into scouting we met at Crown Hill elementary, and it was open and functioning. Not sure what all and or who occupies that space currently?

  2. Breaks my heart! Trinity Church Seattle.. well, what can I say but disappointed? How’s the basketball group that got all the press and how about the overnight shelter? Lots going away and being replaced by what? Love isn’t just a concept, it’s an action. Hope another building space will open up for this amazing troop!

    1. Exactly right. The new Trinity Church has discontinued Saturday Soup (didn’t Jesus wash the feet of the poor?), kicked out the Boy Scout Troop and taken down the rainbow flag. Thought Christianity was about helping others?
