Veterans Day in Ballard: events and closures

Monday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, which means several events around the city, plus closures of City offices and limited services.

In Ballard, there will be a Veterans Day Concert featuring the Seattle Civic Band at the Ballard Eagleson VFW Post 3036 (2812 NW Market St) from 3pm to 4pm on Sunday, Nov. 10. “Enjoy patriotic music, sing along with us, and join us in thanking those who have served our country.” The concert is free, and all donations will got to the Post 3063 Relief Fund.

The Ballard Elks Lodge will host their annual Veterans Day Dinner and Ceremony on Monday evening, starting with a social hour at 5pm and steak dinner at 6pm. A ceremony will follow to honor all service members.

All Taco Time NW locations, including the one in Ballard (2853 NW Market St) will be giving away free meals to all veterans and current service members on Monday. The free meal will be a Soft Taco Combo Meal — no purchase is necessary but veterans or service members must show proof of military service.

Brown Bear Car Wash will be offering their annual free car washes for current or former service members. The company’s “Beary Clean” wash will be offered for free at all tunnel wash locations, including Ballard (5111 15th Ave NW), from 8am to 6pm. They operate on an honor system — no verification is required to get the free wash. In addition to the free washes, Brown Bear will be donating $1 from each car washed on Veterans Day to support the Puget Sound Honor Flight, which transports Western Washington war veterans to visit memorials in Washington D.C.

Urban Family Brewing Co. across the Locks in Magnolia ( 4441 26th Ave W) will have a Veterans Day Beer Release on Sunday. The new beer is called the “Good Life, Good Fight” in honor of Sgt. William C. Stacey. This year’s IPA (version 2) is freshly brewed with 22lbs of 2019 Veterans Blend hop from YCH and tapped just for this event. “This hazy IPA was brewed not only by the Urban Family brewers, but also the officers of William C. Stacey Post 206,” the William C. Stacey American Legion Post 206 and Urban Family say on their event info. Urban Family will be donating $1 from each beer sold to the American Legion Seattle Post 206.

The Woodland Park Zoo will be offering free admission (plus one) for veterans on Sunday from 9:30am to 4pm, with valid service identification. Plus, up to six family members accompanying heroes with valid ID will receive $4 each off admission.

Though not in Ballard, there will be a big Veterans Day Parade happening in Auburn on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 11am.

Monday, Nov. 11 is a federal holiday — here are reminders of what will be closed and changes to city services:

    1. Yes, thank you for your service to all who have served. No, I won’t stand for the national anthem and may occasionally even burn the flag in protest.

Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.
