Ballard entrepreneur launches Wowzer, a dating app for dog lovers

A Ballard woman has helped launched a new kind of dating app: Wowzer is created specifically for dog lovers.

Ballardite Stephanie Worley and co-founder Michi Suzuki had originally planned to open a doggy daycare, but after helping some single friends navigate the online dating world, they recognized an opportunity to develop a dog-focused dating app.

“With Wowzer, dogs are our co-pilot,” Suzuki writes on their website. “They’re an easy ice breaker, a great way to get outdoors, and they say a lot about who we are and how we live.”

Forget your typical dude-with-fish profile picture. Wowzer users are encouraged to use their best selfie-with-pooch. The app is designed to do the rest, matching profiles and suggesting meet-ups.

The app launched in Seattle at the end of October, and Worley said they’ve had big response so far. It’s free to start, but they’ll include what they say will be “premium membership services” to be released at a later date.

“This business was born out of a desire to help our single dog-loving friends meet people who share their interests and values,” Suzuki writes. “The fact that it can help a lot more people is really heartening for us.”

  1. What a great idea. There are so many bitter people who hate dogs (especially in Ballard) and it’s great to filter those people out right away.

      1. Probably just as well. I mean, who wants to date a closed minded… let’s say individual to be polite… like you? You complain about bitter people one second, then with your very next thought say something so negative. You reap what you sow.

    1. LOL. “So many bitter people”. You really ARE a cartoon aren’t you. Most can’t make up the crap you come up with. Please un-woke yourself.
