Ballard knitting club collecting handmade cold weather gear for the food bank

A local knitting group is focusing their efforts on making hats, scarves, and mittens for the Ballard Food Bank.

The group, Yak & Yarn, meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Ballard Coffee Works. One of the members, Alexis, has decided to start collecting handmade items for the Ballard Food Bank, where she volunteers.

“I volunteer every week, and our clients just love donations of knitted or crocheted cold weather gear,” Alexis wrote in a post in the My Ballard Group.

To donate items, meet Alexis at Ballard Coffee Works during their bi-monthly meetings (held from 7pm to 9pm) — or donate them directly to the food bank.

  1. Maybe someone can bring one out to the junkie who’s shooting up against a FOR SALE property across the alley from my house. Call the cops? Oh, I did. About 90 minutes ago.

    1. why don’t you take responsibility for your life. go out and tell them they are not wanted, scary, maybe. or you can just whine. and YES when i see disrespectful behavior around me i almost always say NO, not here. if your going to wait around for this city to help you out your wasting your time.

    2. Saw a guy right on Aurora at HD shooting up the other day. The “new normal”. Jenny Durkan doesn’t care either. Pete Holmes doesn’t care either. Welcome to SF north. And THIS is progress?

  2. I get that people want to help here. All this during good economic times though. Why aren’t they teaching people to knit and handing out fishing poles? As in teaching a man to…………………………………….Most limitations ARE self-imposed.
