Former Classic Consignment owner to open new venture Beehive Mercantile & Co. on Oct. 31

After being closed for a year, the former Classic Consignment is gearing up to open in its new location and with a new identity: Beehive Mercantile & Co. will be opening on Halloween, Oct. 31.

“It has been a ridiculously long year and after the fire at our old location, insurance strife, the pandemic, construction issues, floods and more, we are happy to finally welcome our friends and customers back to our store on Halloween,” owner Paula Lukoff wrote in an announcement to customers.

Classic Consignment closed abruptly in 2019 when several businesses at the corner of 24th and Market were destroyed by fire. The consignment store was saved from the flames, but the smoke damage was severe enough that Lukoff was forced to move. The new location is at 5500 14th Ave NW—the former Parker Paint/Sherwin-Williams store.

Lukoff says consignment is being done differently now due to insurance restrictions, but that re-sale appointments will start back up in mid-November. Along with consignment items, Beehive will have, “an eclectic assortment of new, vintage items, artisan made and assorted wares including clothing, furniture, speciality food, kitchenware, original art and more.”

After their grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 31, the store will be open Wednesday to Saturday 11:30am to 5pm, and Sunday from 11:30 to 4:30pm. They’ll be closed on Mondays, and open by appointment only on Tuesdays. The capacity will be 10 customers at a time, and they ask that customers use sanitizer upon entry and sign the guest book.
