U-Haul of Ballard resurfaces plans to build a self-storage mini-warehouse

Yet more self-storage is on the way for Ballard.

My Ballard first reported on U-Haul’s plans to turn its 1119 NW Leary Way location into a self-storage facility in December 2020. Now, three years later, U-Haul is resurfacing its plans.

The developer Blueline has submitted a modified land use application for a 4-story mini-warehouse with parking for 34 vehicles. The plans include demolishing the existing building.

U-Haul has owned the half-acre property since 1986; it’s currently a retail store and a pick-up/drop-off site for its moving trucks and trailers.

Just around the corner near Fred Meyer is another self-storage development site: Extra Space Storage is building a 4-story storage facility at 1115 NW 46th St.
