Ballard is preparing to mark one of its longest-running traditions: the annual 17th of May celebration, commemorating Norwegian Constitution Day. Now in its 136th year, Ballard’s celebration is the largest Syttende Mai gathering outside of Norway.
The festivities are scheduled throughout the day on Saturday, May 17, 2025, with several activities planned across the neighborhood.

Live music will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Bergen Place Park, continuing until 3:30 p.m. Performances are free and open to the public. Nearby, the Leif Erikson Lodge will host an open house from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering visitors a chance to learn more about the area’s Norwegian heritage.
Skål Beer Hall will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., featuring food and drink specials, including options available from its takeout window for parade attendees.
The National Nordic Museum is hosting a 17th of May luncheon from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available online for those interested in attending.
The day’s main event, the 51st annual 17th of May Parade, will start at 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of NW 62nd Street and 24th Avenue NW. More than 100 groups are expected to participate, including marching bands, drill teams, Norwegian-American organizations, and classic cars. The parade will conclude at Ballard Avenue and Ione Street.

Throughout the day, visitors can also expect family activities, cultural displays, and dancing in various locations.
The parade is free and open to all—pick your spot along the parade route early to make sure you get a good view.
