Ballyhoo Curiosity Shop burgled, fundraiser launched to recover losses

Ballyhoo Curiosity Shop (5445 Ballard Ave NW) is seeking community support after a break-in early last Sunday morning resulted in more than $20,000 in stolen inventory and significant damage to the store.

According to the GoFundMe campaign, two people broke into the Ballard business, taking items and damaging multiple glass cases, fixtures, and the front door. The burglary comes as the owner and staff have been working to renovate a new location just down the street at 5333 Ballard Ave NW, with plans to move by September.

After taking a few days to clean up and secure the storefront, the shop has reopened. The fundraiser goal is $10,000. As of this writing, they’ve so far raised $3,455. The money will help them replace stolen inventory, repay consignors for missing items, repair damage, and keep the relocation project on track.

The GoFundMe campaign, organized by Brandon Vosika on behalf of the shop, says the break-in has been a setback but hasn’t dampened the team’s spirit. The owners hope to open “Ballyhoo 2.0” without further delays.

“If you’ve ever wandered the fascinating aisles, discovered a perfect gift, or simply connected with something strange and wonderful at Ballyhoo, now’s the perfect moment to show your love,” Vosika wrote. “Every bit counts, and every share helps.”
