Distant West Brewing closing Ballard taproom

The local brewery Distant West Brewing will soon shut its taproom in Ballard at 1406 NW 53rd St.

Owner Greg Macaulay shared the news on Instagram, saying they’ll be serving their last beer at the taproom on October 12. “While it’s bittersweet, this is a pivot – not an ending,” he wrote.

Starting on October 13, Macaulay will focus on wholesale, markets, and brewery pop-ups.

Macaulay shared more on the website:

“This pivot allows us to strengthen our wholesale partnerships and expand into more of the places you already go – bars, bottle shops, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. and we will still be meeting you directly at tap takeovers, farmers markets and special brewery pop-ups. Though the Ballard taproom is closing, a welcoming community space is still part of our long-term vision. We’re building toward the right taproom, at the right time, in the right place.”

Distant West opened in February 2024 in Reuben’s Brews’ first location.

“Thank you for being part of this. Come by this weekend to raise a glass and celebrate the new direction and we’ll see you in more places soon,” Macaulay wrote.
