New card game showcases several Ballard breweries

A local creator has just released a new card game that features several Ballard breweries: It’s called Dank & Draft, inspired in part by the dense cluster of taprooms in Ballard.

Founder Becky Young featured Reuben’s, Stoup, Obec, Wheelie Pop, Lucky Envelope, Old Stove, Rooftop, Distant West, and Fair Isle in the list of 26 total Washington breweries in the game.

Dank & Draft works like this: Players are tasked with building a taproom lineup by drafting beers from rotating taps and using action cards that can shake up the game.

“A full round takes less time than it takes to drink a beer, and it draws from the taproom game culture I see everywhere I go in Washington,” Young told My Ballard in an email.

“I love walking into a local pub and seeing people gathered around a table with a deck of cards or a board game,” Young said on the game’s website. “You’ll see everything from cribbage and Go to newer favorites like 7 Wonders. My go-to is Azul because it’s small enough for the table and easy to play while having a chat. I wanted to make something that fits naturally on a brewery table.”

The game was produced entirely within Washington, from graphic design by Handsome Meatball and development by Rainbow Rabbits Games to printing and packaging at Seattle Printworks.

This is the second game inspired by Ballard’s breweries: Stefan Hock, former Peddler Brewing Co. employee, created a board game called Beers of Ballard which debuted earlier this year after a couple of years in production.

Dank & Draft is available at Rainbow Rabbits and at select participating breweries. Young says she plans to host game events at each brewery featured in the deck in the coming months.
