Baker’s in Sunset Hill to close after 7 years

In what feels like another blow to the Ballard bar and restaurant scene, Baker’s (6408 32nd Ave NW) on Sunset Hill has announced it’s closing at the end of the month.

Baker’s opened in 2019 in the former Walter’s location. The owners shared the news of their closing on social media this week, saying their last day of service will be January 31.

“The decision is certainly devastating, and a myriad of factors contributed,” they wrote. “No point in lamenting though. We believe it’s much more important to celebrate the beautiful life and to let you know how completely grateful we are for all of your support over these last nearly 7 years.”

Baker’s closing is part of what feels like a larger trend in Ballard—in just the last week, we’ve shared news of several other closures. Schooner Street Pub closed over the holidays, Waterwheel Lounge had its final hoorah on Dec. 31, and Copine told customers it’s shutting down in May.

From Baker’s:

“There is an old English pub tradition around the holidays called “Drink The Bar Dry”. And, since this is Dry January, we ask that perhaps you will come and laugh and mourn and celebrate with us during our first and final “Drink The Bar Dry January” festivities!”

No news yet about what might become of the space, but we’ll keep you updated.
