Tactics skate/snowboard shop to close after two years in Ballard

Update: Tactics Ballard store manager Larry Detris told My Ballard that they’re planning to close on March 22. He says several factors influenced the decision to close, including difficulties with parking, high rent, and crime.

Original: Tactics (5209 Ballard Ave NW) is closing its Ballard store after two years in the neighborhood.

Tactics opened in 2024 in the former Ascent Outdoors location on Ballard Ave. The brand started in Eugene, Oregon, in 1999. They have several shops in Oregon, and the Ballard shop was their first store in Washington.

“We’re sad to announce that we are closing our Seattle shop location,” Tactics said on social media. “We want to thank everyone for all the support and good times over the last two years. It’s been a great ride, and we’ll miss you Ballard.”

Tactics is having a storewide 30% off sale until they close, and its online store will remain open.

The store’s location on Ballard Ave has been home to outdoor recreation shops for nearly three decades. Ascent Outdoors (previously known as Second Ascent) was there for 22 years before packing up and moving to Interbay.
