Ballard Goodwill to host Shibuya Hi-Fi vinyl pop-up with local DJ

Evergreen Goodwill is partnering with Seattle-based curator and DJ Brian Rauschenbach of Shibuya Hi-Fi for a month-long pop-up at the Ballard Goodwill (6400 8th Ave NW, beginning with a kickoff event on Thursday, July 10.

Rauschenbach is the co-founder and curator of Ballard’s Shibuya Hi-Fi, the vinyl-focused listening bar that opened in 2023 in the former Cedar Room space on Leary Avenue. The venue draws inspiration from Tokyo’s hi-fi listening bars, pairing vinyl-only DJ sets with a dedicated listening experience built around high-fidelity sound systems and curated music.

According to Evergreen Goodwill, the pop-up will run from July 10 through Aug. 2. It will feature a curated selection of vinyl records, record players, speakers, and other items for audiophiles, alongside clothing and accessories inspired by Rauschenbach’s personal style.

The collection will include pieces influenced by ’90s grunge, sneaker culture, and streetwear.

“Thrifting has been a part of my life since the 90s. When I was in college, I would hit up as many places as I could to be able to add to my collection of vintage items,” Rauschenbach said in a video about the pop-up.

The collaboration will launch with a free kickoff party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at the Ballard Goodwill. Evergreen Goodwill says Rauschenbach will DJ throughout the evening, spinning vinyl with a mix of funk, disco, boogie, and other genres as a preview of the Shibuya Hi-Fi experience.

A spokesperson from Evergreen Goodwill said they approached Rauschenbach because of his work curating vintage audio equipment, records, and fashion, as well as his longtime connection to secondhand shopping. Their goal is to encourage shoppers to see the range of items that can be found through thrift stores, particularly vintage audio equipment, vinyl records, and curated fashion.
