A new seafood-focused business from Local Tide owner Victor Steinbrueck has announced plans to open on Ballard Avenue in late August.
GoodMart shared the update this week on Instagram, confirming the business is expected to open in late August at 5130 Ballard Ave. NW, in the former Kathy Casey Food Studios space.
My Ballard first reported in May that Steinbrueck had filed city permits for a market and dining counter at the location. At the time, permit documents identified the project as “GoodMart,” though few additional details had been released.
Based on the business’s Instagram announcement, GoodMart will be a seafood-focused concept.
Steinbrueck opened Local Tide in Fremont in 2020. The restaurant focuses on sustainably sourced Pacific Northwest seafood, with dishes influenced by his Chinese, Filipino, and German heritage. Before opening Local Tide, Steinbrueck developed the concept through a series of Seattle pop-ups inspired by travels through Southeast Asia and his family’s culinary traditions.
According to previous reporting by the Puget Sound Business Journal, construction at the Ballard location is being led by Dovetail, with Ballard-based Heliotrope Architects handling the design.
The Ballard space was previously home to Kathy Casey Food Studios, which closed last September after 27 years on Ballard Avenue.
My Ballard has reached out to GoodMart to learn more about the new concept but has not yet received additional information.
