Seattle Parks and Recreation is planning to renovate the Loyal Heights Community Center, and they’re asking the public to weigh in on the design plans.
Seattle Parks completed its designs for the renovation and will share them with the public on Saturday, August 8, during the annual Tasty Tunes event at the community center (2101 NW 77th St). Community members will be able to view the plans, ask questions, and provide feedback at the Seattle Parks information booth.
The Loyal Heights Community Center renovation has been in the works for a decade. It was first highlighted as a priority in Seattle’s 2016 Community Center Strategic Plan to extend the facility’s lifespan and expand programming.
In 2020, the city conducted a feasibility study that evaluated the building’s structural, electrical, operational, and programmatic needs. From that study, funding was approved as part of the current Seattle Metropolitan Parks District funding cycle.
Seattle Parks says the project includes upgrades to aging building structures, replacing fossil-fuel-powered mechanical systems with electric systems, improving accessibility, and renovating many of the interior programming spaces.
The project is currently in the design phase, which is expected to continue through winter 2027. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2027 and continue through winter 2028.
The total project budget is $30.6 million. Seattle Parks said $1.6 million has been secured for planning and design through Seattle Metropolitan Parks District funding, with the remaining $29 million expected to be financed in 2027-2028.
Tasty Tunes is an annual Loyal Heights Community Center event that raises money for various causes. If you can’t attend the information session during Tasty Tunes on Aug. 8, Seattle Parks said additional online engagement materials will be added to the project’s webpage.
