Update: Last week’s photo of Ballard’s new watchdog was one of our most-shared stories, and we’re happy to report we now know the backstory:
The pup on the roof is a 75 lb., six-month old Newfoundland mix named Rumple. His owner, Robi Holmes, tells My Ballard that she adopted Rumple from a family in Spokane just six weeks ago.
“He is very well cared for, loves being around people (especially kids), playing with other dogs, swimming, being out and about to all of the dog friendly places this city has to offer, visiting his friends at the Ballard Animal Hospital, treats, and clearly loves being on my roof!” Robi says.
Rumple uses a deck in the backyard to access the roof, which Robi says she’s tried repeatedly to barricade.
“He has decided that my roof is his favorite place, so I am assuming there must be a pretty good view from up there,” Robi says. “He loves to walk the perimeters anywhere we are and make sure everything is safe, so I must agree the top of the roof has to give a pretty good vantage point.”
Rumple’s days on the roof may be numbered: Robi has hired a contractor to build a gate to block the deck access. “I have his safety in mind and am doing everything I know to keep him safe and loved.”
Original: It’s not every day you see a dog perched on top of a roof.
Jim spotted this pup atop a Frelard roof today, seemingly watching the clouds go by. He snapped the below photo and shared it on Instagram.
“I’ve walked by the house hundreds of times and had never seen a dog there, much less a dog on a roof!” Jim tells My Ballard.
