December Ballard District Council meeting is Wednesday

This Wednesday, Dec. 11 is the final Ballard District Council meeting of the year, featuring a presentation from the new Seattle Police Community Service Officer program, incoming District 6 Seattle City Councilmember Dan Strauss, and free holiday cookies.

They’ll also be accepting clothing donations (men’s and women’s pants, socks, and underwear) to support the Bridge Care Center.

Here’s the agenda:

Seattle Police Community Service Officer (CSO) Program. Sgt. Kevin Nelson will provide an overview of the Community Service Officer program, rolling out this month and set to expand in 2020. CSOs are unarmed, noncommissioned officers who will help respond to noncriminal calls and help connect people with social services. The program operated in Seattle for 33 years until it was cut from the budget in 2004. The CSO uniform and vehicle style will be clearly distinguishable from traditional police officers.

Join us in learning about CSOs, and what coverage Ballard can anticipate as they staff up. There will be time for public Q&A.

Welcome to Incoming D6 Councilmember Dan Strauss. Our new District 6 city councilmember will drop by for a post-election visit, prior to being sworn into office in January 2020.

BDC Business – Voting on 2020 Board Members and Review of By-Laws. The nomination committee will present nominees for President and Vice President and up to 4 other board members. The President and VP candidates will each have 1-2 minutes to address the attendees, followed by a vote from those in attendance. The board will also give an update on development of our by-laws.

Bridge Care Center Donations. Please consider bringing donations of men’s and women’s clothing for the Bridge Care Center (a drop-in center for men and women experiencing homelessness or economic hardship in Ballard, especially: pants, socks, underwear, coats/jackets.

The meeting will be held on Dec. 11 from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Sunset Hill Community Association (3003 NW 66th St).

  1. Please be different Mr. Strauss. This city is NOT just for the limousine liberals. It’s not a social proving ground either. All lives matter.
