Ballard Alliance promotes local holiday shopping with Love Your Local program

To help promote local shopping this holiday season, Ballard Alliance has started a campaign called Love Your Local.

As part of the program, customers who shop or dine in one of the 24 participating businesses will receive a special envelope with each purchase filled with either a Golden Ticket prize valued up to $100 or a Love Your Local Loyalty Card offering 10% off their next purchase.

Businesses started sharing envelopes on Dec. 7, and distribution will continue until Jan. 31 or while supplies last. The Alliance says the campaign’s origins started with re-souL co-owner Legh Burns who was looking for a way to help support the local restaurant community through a reciprocation program.

“What I’ve always known about this neighborhood is that, in many ways, my business relies on the success of others, and I want to reciprocate,” Burns said in a statement about the campaign. “I’m watching businesses jumping through a lot of hoops and having some success and others are really struggling to hang on. So I wondered how we can ‘add fuel’ to these businesses and sustain them, because their success is our success. I was hoping for a way to send my customers to another business. I want to encourage shoppers to dine out, and diners to go shopping. Perhaps a customer will return another day but regardless, it’s something we can do together as a neighborhood.”
