Here’s your weekly events roundup for Aug. 24–30 in Ballard.
This week’s events include a parenting parody rock show, conversations about nuclear energy and publishing, several trivia nights, the annual Ballard Sidewalk Sale, craft workshops, and a back-to-school clothing swap.

- Moomins’ Sea Adventures and Tove and the Sea, National Nordic Museum, through Sept. 6
- Two exhibitions explore the world of Moominvalley and creator Tove Jansson’s relationship with the Finnish archipelago. Admission is $10–$25.
- Intro to Machine Knitting, Seattle Knitting Lab, Aug. 23 and 30, 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
- This two-part class covers the equipment and techniques needed to create simple knitted fabrics. Each participant will have a machine to use while learning how to cast on, bind off, create striped patterns and shape fabric. The class costs $300.
Monday, Aug. 24
- RockMomEnough Show — Parenting Parody Rock Show, Sunset Tavern, 7:30–8:30 p.m.
- Seattle’s all-mom parody rock band performs songs about parenting, packed lunches, late-night wakeups, carpools, screen time and other parts of raising children. The show is for ages 21 and older. Tickets are $12.
Tuesday, Aug. 25
- Washington legislators on nuclear energy, Old Stove Gardens, 7–8:30 p.m.
- State Sen. Sharon Shewmake and state Rep. Stephanie Barnard will discuss nuclear energy legislation and what it could mean for Washington’s energy future. Madison Schroder will moderate the free panel.
- Music Bingo, Channel Marker Cider, 7–9 p.m.
- Players match songs instead of numbers during a themed music bingo game, with prizes and a rotating food truck. The event is free.
- How to get published with Diana Ma, The Ink Drinker, 7:30–8:30 p.m.
- Author Diana Ma will discuss the publishing process and her work across young adult, children’s, nonfiction, and fantasy books. The event is free.
Wednesday, Aug. 26
- Beer Hall Trivia, SKÅL Beer Hall, 7–9 p.m.
- Teams will compete in five trivia rounds, including a music round. Entry costs $5.
- Book Trivia, The Ink Drinker, 8–9:30 p.m.
- Teams and solo players can compete for first-, second- and third-place prizes during this free book trivia night.
- Drinkers with Knitting Problems, Hazlewood, 8–11 p.m.
- Bring a knitting, crochet, embroidery or sewing project for an evening of crafting and drink specials, including nonalcoholic options. The event is free.
- Jimothy All Hands Cleanup, Ballard Commons Park, 6–7:30 p.m.
- Volunteers will clean up Ballard Commons Park in honor of Jimothy, the short-spined raccoon that has become a Seattle icon. Seattle Public Utilities and Adopt a Street will provide cleanup supplies. All ages are welcome, and participants should wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
- Movie in the Park and Veraci Pizza pop-up, Ballard Commons Park, beginning at 6 p.m.
- Veraci Pizza will host a pop-up beginning at 6 p.m. ahead of an outdoor screening of Despicable Me. Sweet Mickey’s Candy Shoppe is hosting the movie night, which follows the Jimothy cleanup.
Thursday, Aug. 27
- Ballard Sidewalk Sale, participating businesses around Ballard, Aug. 27–30, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
- More than 40 neighborhood businesses will offer deals outside their storefronts during the annual Ballard Sidewalk Sale. Participating locations include clothing and vintage stores, bookstores, home goods shops, specialty retailers and other local businesses. The sale runs through Sunday, Aug. 30.
Friday, Aug. 28
- Soft Goods Friday Night Flea Market, Soft Goods Vintage, 5–10 p.m.
- The free flea market will feature vintage sellers, craft vendors, flash tattoos, food and drinks, and a food truck converted into a record store. The event coincides with the Ballard Sidewalk Sale, and Soft Goods will offer 20% off merchandise.
Saturday, Aug. 29
- Upcycle your clothing with hand embroidery, Swoon City, 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
- Fiber artist Melissa Galbraith will lead a workshop on using hand embroidery to cover stains and small holes in clothing. Participants should bring a garment to work on. The class costs $60.
Sunday, Aug. 30
- Ballard Farmer’s Market, Ballard Ave, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.(recurring)
- Open since 2000, the Ballard Farmers Market is Seattle’s first year-round neighborhood farmers market selling produce exclusively from Washington state farmers. The Market has operated along the historic cobblestone stretch of Ballard Avenue NW between Vernon Place and 22nd Avenue.
- Back-to-school clothing swap, Illumination Learning Studio, 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
- Illumination Learning Studio and Pass It are hosting a free children’s clothing swap. The session for children under 9 runs from 9–11:30 a.m., followed by a session for ages 9–16 from noon–2:30 p.m.
- Silent Reading at The Ink Drinker, The Ink Drinker, 6–8 p.m.
- Bring your current book for two hours of quiet reading. The event is free.
