Busy weekend in Ballard

There’s a lot going on around Ballard this evening and into the weekend, and it looks like we’re going to luck out and enjoy some beautiful weather.

  • This afternoon from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is the Seattle Summer Streets party on 22nd Ave by Bergen Place. Make your “Undriver License,” try out cool bikes from the Dutch Bike Company, design your own bracelets of recycled bicycle parts, make a smoothie with the human-powered bike blender and much more. Parking will be restricted and vehicles will not be able to use 22nd between Market and Ballard Ave. from 3 to 8 p.m.
  • Tonight at the Sunset Tavern, author and Managing Editor of Seattle Weekly Mike Seely celebrates his new book “Seattle’s Best Dive Bars: Drinking & Diving in the Emerald City” with karaoke happy hour and a book signing from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday is the NOOD Regatta. Hundreds of spectators are expected at Shilshole and Golden Gardens.
  • Saturday night Seattle funk/soul band Eldridge Gravy & The Court Supreme will play The Tractor Tavern in Ballard for the release party of their debut LP “Us Is What Time It Is.”
  • Sunday is the annual Syttende Mai celebration and parade. Norwegian Fjord Horses will be on display at the Nordic Heritage Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. before marching in the parade. The parade begins at 4 p.m. near Adams Elementary at the corner of NW 62nd and 24th Avenue NW. The route goes south to Market Street then east to Bergen Place. The Smilin’ Scandinavians perform from 8 p.m. to midnight at Leif Erikson Hall. Entry is free but donations are welcome; must be 21 or older. More details here.
  • For more live music, check out the calendars for the Tractor Tavern, Sunset Tavern, The Bit Saloon, High Dive, Conor Byrne, Egan’s Ballard Jam House and Nectar. As always, check out our events calendar. And if you have an event to add, just email us at tips@myballard.com.

    1. Dude,

You guys should sell more LONGBOARDS. Seattle is a longboard mecca and everyone's buying them online. It's pathetic. The freaking 24 hour endurance record for long-distance pumping was set around Greenlake!

Longboards are really the transportation vehicle — the little popsicle boards you guys sell with the 95 durometer wheels are toys, my friend. Not that this is a bad thing. I love toys and have a shortboard, too. But I won't commute on it (like I do on the longboard).

At the very least you guys should carry the Insect longboard line, since they are made right here in Ballard.

I really like your spider theme ironwork on the shop.
