Ballard Lock’s large chamber drained for repair work

The large chamber of the Ballard Locks has just been drained for the scheduled 53-day closure.

Every year, the large chamber of the Ballard Locks is drained for annual maintenance. This year, crews will also be replacing the large chamber’s filling culvert valves, part of a multi-year project to upgrade the century-old Locks.

“Pump out is in full swing!” they posted on Facebook with these photos. “Come on down to enjoy the fall colors and see how deep the chamber really is!”

The work to replace the valves will continue into the beginning of December — we’ll keep you updated on their progress.

    1. I went to the website. The Locks were built “over 100 years ago” according to it. Scratching my head here…………………………
