Great State Burger could be coming to Ballard Ave

The former Volterra’s location could become a new burger joint.

The space has been empty since the Italian restaurant closed at the end of 2017, and for a time was destined to become a rotisserie chicken restaurant called Poulet Galore. Those plans recently fell through, and now it looks like it may turn into a new location for Great State Burger.

Because the space is on Ballard Ave, the Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board met this morning to learn about some changes the restaurant would like to make, including a new sign with lighting, plus window signage and new exterior paint.

Great State Burger currently has six locations around the greater Seattle region. We’ve reached out to the company for more information about their plans, and will report back with any new info.

Thanks for the photo and tip, Carson Baker!

Ballard needs another burger joint like we need another grocery store. As others have mentioned this should be the new location for La Isla.

Yeah – we have eight already in the near vicinity!

8oz burger, Lil Woodys, Katsu Burger for the fancy ones
Five Guys, Ballard Brothers, and Scooter’s for the others
Wendy’s and Mcdonalds for the quick and cheap.

Admittedly adding Great State would add a more affordable option to the heart of downtown to mix it up, which may not altogether be a bad thing. There’s not a lot of $10 dinner options on Ballard Ave. But perhaps that just doesn’t fit the character of the street.

He said “near vicinity” so I gave him a pass.

Another Renee Erickson location, then. Between her and Ethan Stowell, that’s a lot of restaurants on Ballard Avenue.

Except Stowell just closed two of his.

Repurposed to event spaces still providing food. Still owned by him. So, my point that the two of them own a lot of food service properties on that one street stands.

You know what we really need? A wood-fired, Thai hamburger joint with craft cocktails and white girls in fedoras posting it all to their influencer Instagram accounts.

You forgot to mention people, much like yourself, who hate others so much that they turn to trolling and insults to make themselves feel better.

What about Great Junkie Burger? Just give them out for free with a side of clean needles.
