A new venture from the owner of the Old Pequliar is filling the former Fitzgerald’s location on 24th, and it’s going to be called The Old County.
Fitzgerald’s closed in December, and Old Pequliar owner Billy Whelan jumped on the opportunity to revamp the space and turn it into something new.
Whelan plans to keep the sports-bar feel, but will incorporate an Irish twist. He’s currently deep in the cleaning and renovating phase, which he says will take a few more weeks.
“I’d been looking for a place to open a new bar, and the timing was right,” Whelan told My Ballard in January, adding that it helps that it’s just half a mile away from Old Pequliar. Business is going great at Old Pequliar — “no reason we can’t do it again,” he said.
There will be all the trappings of a sports bar: trivia nights, sports-ball games on the big screen, and of course, wings a’plenty.
Whelan said The Old County should be open in the next two to three weeks, if all goes well. We’ll keep you updated.
