$30k raised in two days for victim of Ballard assault

The fundraiser to help support the 20-year-old man who was attacked last Saturday has collected over $31,000 in just two days.

Moses Brudnyy was brutally attacked outside of Ballard Market on Aug. 1 while on his way to work. His QFC supervisor Katrina Surdyk started the GoFundMe fundraiser, saying he’s “one of the good ones”.

“He’s overwhelmed and is very emotional,” his mother, Oksana Peters tells My Ballard. “Yesterday was the first time he saw the GoFundMe and he began to cry.” She says she’s doing okay and recovering well since returning home from the hospital.

“Moses is extremely grateful. He wants Ballard people to know that they are the most caring people in the world,” Peters says.

According to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the man who attacked Brudnyy is Solomon Wilson Prince. He has been charged with one count of second-degree assault and one count of fourth-degree assault.

Prince’s arraignment, where he’s expected to enter a plea, is scheduled for 8:30am on Aug. 19. Prince has no known criminal history.

      1. Interesting. I know judges deny bail all the time but was Solomon Prince’s assault II charge not a severe enough crime? No flight risk, danger to others? I believe he had no other criminal history so at least that counts in his favor to be given a bail amount vs denied bail.

      2. It would be illegal to do drugs in a city park and beat the crap out of ANYBODY. But the bar has been allowed to be lowered, and lowered again to meet the standards of many living in today’s modern incarnation of Ballard. Too all the folks with those yard signs asking for insanity + chaos: here ya go. Nice going. Own your mess(es).

      3. I’m not sure why I’m getting downvoted for stating what the law is in the state of Washington… Though I’ll note that all the tough law types don’t actually care about following the law when they don’t like it.

A judge can only deny bail in Washington under specific circumstances. I believe it’s only if it’s a capital crime or they’ve skipped bail in the past or they’re on probation.

That’s it. Other jurisdictions are different.

        1. Thank you. I appreciate the explanation. I suspected something like this was behind your comment but don’t know WA laws on this. Nice to have a sane comment! :)

    1. Too many “members of his community” are today part of THE problem. They all select our “leaders”. They all seem to want to break up families, end capitalism and rid us of police. Things are just going to get worse as the navigation teams for homeless has been slashed. Carmen Best’s wages were cut by $100K. 1 council member wants “white cops” fired. That certainly makes people want to become a cop here. And it really makes me feel so very safe. We really need to become Detroit, or perhaps Chicago, where some 700 die a year at the hands of illegal guns. Yup, and THE most stringent guns laws in America too. Dirty secret alert: their mayor is a black women, checking all the PC boxes.

      1. Is there any correlation at all between the number of police officers per capita and the number of gun deaths per capita?

I’ll help: No. Otherwise Seattle would have something like twice the gun deaths per capita of those cities.

I don’t disagree with you, necessarily, regarding the slashes to SPD. But your arguments just don’t hold water and aren’t helpful.

      2. Cops aren’t good at anything but punishing people. Punishment isn’t the answer to every problem in society. If you take half of the bloated PD budget and spend it on social welfare it will go much farther and help solve the root causes of homelessness, addiction, and petty crime.

        1. Thanks Nick! And thanks to all who are defunding police. No sweeps, no police, no removal of my drug camps, no rules… it’s awesome!!!!!

    2. Everyone deserves the same transparency as anyone else. He is a kind man and a positive influence in the community. If you’ve never been called or treated as the n word please don’t pass judgement.
I know he should have taken a better way to express his pain but as a black man there’s nothing more painful than being called that nasty word. Soloman is a Christian man and not a “thug” or anything negative like that. I wish Moses a safe recovery but does anyone even know his background or his views as a person?
This is the important part. Everyone deserves a fair chance in court. Solomon Prince is a good person and I wish people in this community need to help his legal defense also as they did with Moses. This is not a black and white issue this is about possible ignorance and even though I am a black man I don’t support the defendants actions yet I will say that if you haven’t been the receiver of racism one could never know how it feels.
      God bless everyone
      No harm intended

  1. I see lots of for sale signs in our area lately. Seems voting with your feet + where they take you and your wallet is a good/safe idea. Especially lately.

    1. There’s always been lots of “for sale” signs in Ballard.

No matter how much you wish it, Ballard isn’t dying nor are people are not fleeing in droves.

    2. And quit spewing your “Seattle is dying” “Ballard is dying” rhetoric. It’s lunacy. Home prices continue to climb. The population here continues to climb. That isn’t an indication of some trend of people “voting with their feet“ any more than the population decline of the Great Plains is.

Are there problems here? Absolutely. I don’t think anyone enjoys the homeless camps in our neighborhoods. Is voting R the way we’re going to rectify that? Obviously not.

      1. “Obviously not.” Silly statement at best. Republicans have not run Seattle for over 50 years so how could you know? This is ALL Democratic politics, period. To Liberals the rule of law is a grey area. Starting with sanctuary city to giving more care to the criminal than the victim.

  2. Thanks goodness they caught the guy. I’m wanted in 2 states for drugs, assault and pedophilia. Whew, that was a close one Seattle. Special thanks to the enablers that allow me to cook meth and go pee pee anywhere I want.

    And a 1 and a 2 and a 3…
    Glad Moses is getting better,
    Glad meth is legal,
Glad going pee and poo outside is OK,
Glad someone picks up after me,
Glad they ended the Navigation Team,
    Glad they defunded the police,
Glad yelling “Die b-tch! Die b-tch! I’ll kill you!” at 2 am at the Senior Center is allowed,
Glad narcotics trafficking in Ballard Commons is legal,
Glad no more camp removals under any circumstance,
Glad for free food from St. Luke’s!
    Glad for the City Council…

  3. And now it is up to the prosecutors. An easy conviction, I would assume, with witnesses, and physical evidence. However this is the Seattle Prosecutors Office. They will likely plea bargain him to a lesser charge and release him.

    1. Typical Seattle/Ballard laziness to use a meme for someone who doesn’t think like you do.
I’m not nor do I identify as a woman/girl so the Karen thing is a stretch, at best.
That’s your best argument? To call me something that makes no sense?
What? Did you forget how to spell boomer?

      I actually know Moises, you?

  4. Once again, another unexplained deletion by the moderators.

You’re doing WONDERS with your censorship.

Discouraging discourse via the press of a button.

Free and unbiased “press” my ass!

  5. Wait a minute. This seems very suspicious to me. Why did this white guy get into a fight with a black guy and “claim to know nothing” afterward.
As a woman, my bet is that these two guys fought and the white guy is claiming he was “jumped on for no reason by a big black thug.” Guess who is incarcerated like usual? Not the white man. Even though both stupid guys fought each other? Yep, that is correct 2 stupid guys fought and if they were both white, neither one of the 2 stupid guys would be in jail. But,lets get real. The white guy is claiming he was jumped by a “thug” rather than admitting he got his ass kicked in a fight. Boo hoo for white guy.
I have zero sympathy for the white guy. He is lying and you can see by his face that he is a momma’s boy who always claims it was the other “big thug” guy’s fault.
Shame on My Ballard for being racist when two guys got into a stupid brawl and one guy is lying to his momma that the other guy started it.
    Boo hoo.

    1. That’s right! Everyone knows that homeless and black people never do anything wrong. Even when the black guy broke both his wrists and injured 2 other people (probably white) in the incident, it’s not his fault.
As a homeless drug addict with felony warrants in 2 states, this is a sham. This was no “thug”. It was a peaceful non-insane, totally rational black man assaulted by a kid on his way to work at QFC, assuming he’s even an employee there.
Shame on everyone in Ballard for being racist and NIMBYs for thinking these guys were in a fight. Next thing you know he’ll be a homeless drug addict living at the Ballard Commons. Please! No thugs or crime there at all. Just because it looks like we are cooking and selling drugs doesn’t mean we are cooking and selling drugs. That’s racist too!

Now, let’s get back to the non-racist policies of the City Council and their dismantling of SPD starting with Chief Best…..

    2. Hmmm…
My Ballard allows the above hateful rant but when I post in favor of Moises, and call out the uber left idiocy run amok in Ballard as one of the reasons he got jumped, my post gets deleted.

I’ve heard diatribes very similar to the one above from a certain female in Ballard who makes a point of being as far left and mean spirited as she possibly can. I have a feeling I know EXACTLY who this wonderful citizen is.

Good job Yourballard. Let your hate flags fly.

      This blog is a joke.

  6. This is a complete misrepresentation of who Solomon is. He is a part of the Christian Community, and runs his own ministry. He is not a “Thug” or a “criminal” or an “animal”. He is a very caring individual, he is always engaging and friendly. He does music outreach.
This is not the cut and dry case this is being made out to be. Solomon would never attack someone without cause. I believe that this “victim” probably did call him the N word and probably provoked Solomon. Then after he got on the wrong end, he decided to use his white privelage to play the victim and now he has 30K in his bank account and Solomon is in jail.
But gauging by what I read in the comments the court of conservative opinion has already spoken. You’ve jumped to conclusions and already made up your minds about him. Smh.
