Sustainable Ballard could win $40k for community projects

The local nonprofit Sustainable Ballard is a finalist in the BECU 2026 People’s Choice Award and has a shot at winning $40,000 to help it continue to fund its projects in North Seattle.

Each year, BECU collects nominations from BECU members for the award. Sustainable Ballard was selected as one of 18 finalists in the contest this year, which includes nonprofits from around Western Washington. The group that collects the most votes will win $40,000.

“If Sustainable Ballard has ever helped you, connected you with your neighbors, taught you something new, or inspired you to live a little more sustainably, this is a chance to help us reach even more people and strengthen the programs that make our community special,” Sustainable Ballard executive director Jenny Heins told My Ballard.

Sustainable Ballard runs several neighborhood programs and festivals, from the annual Sustainable Ballard Festival to its Ballard Tool Library and Edible Garden Tour.

“For more than 20 years, Sustainable Ballard has brought neighbors together around practical, community-based ways to create a healthier, more sustainable future. From food recovery and community gardens to sharing resources, reducing waste, and community education and collaboration, our volunteers turn community spirit into action,” Heins said.

“Every vote helps us do more of what we do best: bring people together to build a more sustainable community.”

Voting is open now through 5 p.m. on Oct 16. Anyone 18 or older can participate, with one vote allowed per email address.
