Updated plans for 5-story apartment building set to replace KFC

The plan to tear down and replace the KFC at 1140 NW Market St. with a 5-story building is rolling ahead with new design plans.

The plans were initially filed in August 2020 and the basics haven’t changed: The apartment will have 86 small efficiency dwelling units with no parking. Blueprint Capital is designing it; you can view the design proposal here.

Several new apartment buildings will be lining NW Market St in the coming years. This new apartment would be built just across the street from a 7-story apartment that will replace the Firestone at 1145 NW Market St with 122 units and ground-level retail.

Down the street from Firestone and just east of a new Ballard Aegis Senior Living center, a 229-unit apartment building is going in at 907 NW Market St. And across the street at 904 NW Market, a 6-story apartment complex with 150 units is in the works.

All projects are within Ballard’s Urban Village Hub, which allows for taller developments and reduced parking requirements.
